Upcoming Childbirth Education Course
What: 8 week wholistic childbirth education course (16 hours)
When: Mondays, 6:45pm - 9:00pm / January 11, 2027 - March 1, 2027
Where: Empower Women's Health and Fitness (13615 Genito Road, Midlothian, VA 23112)
Who: Anyone preparing for pregnancy and birth in the future or who is currently pregnant (the earlier in your pregnancy the better!). It can be your first or fifth pregnancy. Previous vaginal or cesarean birth experiences are welcome.
Cost: $350/couple
Course Description
Body Literate Birth is thrilled to teach a BirthWorks International Childbirth Preparation Class. These classes are designed to instill confidence and trust in your ability to give birth, and to help you prepare both physically and emotionally for your birth experience. The course includes interactive activities, multi-sensory visualizations, lecture, media viewing, discussions, role playing, and more.
You will learn about:

How your body is designed to give birth and to keep you and your baby safe during the process

What supports your body's innate birthing abilities and what may hinder it

Medical interventions and their potential benefits, risks, and side effects

Options for your birth and how to build a birth team that supports your goals

Informed decision-making

Comfort measures during labor

Positioning your body and pelvis for an easier birth

Pelvic/body/mind relaxation exercises

Lifestyle elements (such as nutrition and exercise) that increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy/birth

How beliefs and attitudes towards birth can affect your experience

Healing past emotional trauma to facilitate a normal birth

The "innate fetal agenda": Your baby's needs right after they are born and how this impacts long-term health

Breastfeeding, the microbiome, and preparing for postpartum

Additionally, you will receive:

A childbirth preparation workbook

A packet of information about resources, including local birth place options, support groups, breastfeeding specialists, doulas, wholistic health (pelvic floor PT, chiropractor, exercise specialists), healthy eating options, etc.
